What’s next for SnipNotes: Integration with iOS 9

It’s been a while since the last post in this series. SnipNotes 1.2 was released about three weeks ago with big new features like image support and an app for Apple Watch. Meanwhile iOS 9 is available, which offers great new integration points for third-party apps. The next SnipNotes update will take full advantage of these new features and is actually closer than you think! Let’s take a look…

Search

Spotlight searchThe new SnipNotes allows you to search through your notes right from your homescreen. Just pull down to bring up the search bar and start typing. You can search the titles as well as the contents of your notes. Tap on a result to open it directly inside the app. Images will show a little thumbnail in their search results, phone numbers and addresses will even offer you a context action, similar to the widget.

Multitasking on iPad

Multitasking

iOS 9 brings great improvements for the iPad, the biggest is without any doubt multitasking. SnipNotes will be able to run side by side with another app (on supported hardware) or slide over another app for great productivity. You can for example quickly add new notes and paste content with the new iPad keyboard buttons. Or you can swipe left on a note, copy it into your clipboard and paste it into the other app.

Handoff

Handoff allows you to resume an activity on another device. In SnipNotes you can open a note directly from the lockscreen or from the app switcher while you view it on another device. This works for iPhone and iPad in both directions and even from your Apple Watch to an iOS device.

Siri reminders, 3D Touch and more

While viewing a note, you can activate Siri and say “Remind me about this” to create a new reminder with the note’s title or contents.

On iPhone 6s (and Plus) you can press firmly on the SnipNotes icon on your homescreen to bring up a set of quick actions. From here you can quickly create a new text note or take a picture and save it in SnipNotes.

There are also many other minor improvements like the new system font “San Francisco” and a lot of bug fixes.

If you want to try out the new update before all others, you can still sign up for the beta test. The final version will be released in October. Thanks for reading!
